Couples should thoroughly consider the question of blood group compatibility before planning their pregnancy especially if that’s their first baby.
This post will provide you with all essential information about blood group compatibility for marriage.
If you worry about a negative or a positive blood group matching blood group and genotype for marriage, you have to bear in mind that matching blood types for couples is a lot like matching blood with donors and receivers.
However, a lot of people still think that Rh-negative men match only Rh-negative women. It should be mentioned that Rh-negative women are more numerous than men.
It is also known that Rh incompatibility may lead to erythroblastosis fetalis (Hemolytic disease of the newborn-HDN). As a result, fetal RBC can get destroyed and the baby receives severe anaemia or serious jaundice. In some cases, the fetus might even die because of heart failure. This is caused by antigen-antibodies reaction.
This is why Rh+ve men should not have babies with Rh-ve ladies.
Newborn babies suffering from erythroblastosis fetalis might need exchange transfusion. Their blood test is taken checking their bilirubin levels. Excess levels of bilirubin may cause severe brain damage (called bilirubin encephalopathy).
Such babies are apathetic and slow at sucking. Their fontanelles will often be bulging.
These problems aggravate with each subsequent pregnancy. However, incompatibilities in ABO blood types never lead to erythroblastosis fetalis.
Contemporary medicine can prevent erythroblastosis fetalis through applying Rh0 (D) immune globulin at 28 wk gestation and within 72 h of pregnancy termination to the mother.
The Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has said that one of the main agendas of his administration is to provide a decent education for every child in the state.
He said this on Thursday while noting that he was not born with a silver spoon but was given the opportunity to go to school, hence the desire to do the same for less privileged children.
“I started life in rural Daudawa as the son of a pensioner. Without public education, I would not have gone to school. I believe that the children of the poor are entitled to the same opportunities that I was given.
“Therefore, we have a governance mission to provide ordinary people and their offspring a sustainable ladder for social mobility. Our purpose in government is to promote equality of opportunity, to give every child the best prospects through decent education.
“It is to secure for our young people employment opportunities in a vibrant economy, regulated by a competent public service. It is about giving everyone a fair chance in the race of life! It is about being there for the people and seeking to empower them, not creating and exploiting dependency,” he said.
This comes months after the government sacked about 21,000 teachers following their “poor performance” in a competency test organised in the state.
The teachers in reaction to the move commenced an indefinite strike last Monday in the State.
KDSG is set to dismiss any teacher that is absent from duty as talks circulating around the State indicates that the teachers are set to embark on an indefinite strike.
Read full press statement below:
“It has come to the notice of the Kaduna State Government that the state branch of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) has declared an indefinite strike. This is an illegal action, and will not achieve its aim of derailing the education reforms being implemented by the government.
The Kaduna State Government is not available to be blackmailed into knowingly retaining unqualified teachers. Neither would it mortgage the future of two million primary school pupils because failed teachers are shamelessly mobilizing sentiment.
At the invitation of the Federal Ministry of Labour, the Kaduna State Government twice met in Abuja with the officials of the NLC and the NUT. The Governor Nasir El-Rufai personally led the Kaduna State delegation to the first meeting. During these interactions, KDSG made it clear that as an employer, it has every right to determine who its employees are or can be, and the minimum qualifications they must possess.
The Kaduna State Government wishes to inform the public that it has instructed its Education administrators to open registers in all its schools, starting from Monday, 8th January 2018. Any teacher that is absent from work will be treated with the consequences that pertain to absconding from duty under the Public Service Rules. There can be no doubt that KDSG will take firm and decisive disciplinary action against personnel who absent themselves from duty, including dismissal from service.
KDSG recalls that the NUT placed primary school pupils, who are the victims of failing teachers, in danger by pushing them into the streets to demonstrate for the retention of bad teachers. That ruse failed. Some union leaders are also likely to be prosecuted for assault, unlawful procession and destruction of public property when they attacked the State House of Assembly.
The children of the poor are the ones that attend public primary schools. We owe them a decent standard of education, and we shall provide it.
